I am now two weeks away from finishing my first semester at uni. With deadlines on my mind, I thought I'd do a uni based post..
This counts as doing work right?
No matter how awful your halls/private accommodation may be, the best thing you can do when moving in is to make your room hope ASAP! This will hopefully make you feel much less homesick and should make you settle in much quicker, rather than sticking it out in your cold shell of a room!
Photos - Don't underestimate the power of photos! I always get mine off Photobox, but theres a hundred and one websites that do them out there, most of which offer freebies when you join!
Fairy Lights - These have a strange power of making your room look a lot prettier than it is. I have a green carpet and yellow curtains, however the glow of fairy lights really help. I have these Maroq style lights which add class to the most classless rooms.
Bedding - Now you're a student. You're going to have to expect that a lot of time will be spent in bed! Spend a little time scouting out nice bedding options as they definitely help with making your room feel more homely. Primary have a great selection of cushions, like mine below. However I would suggest to spend a little more on the bedding itself as you want something that will last the whole time you're at uni!
Now it is easy to forget that yes, you are at uni to do work. And hopefully get a degree at the end of it. I definitely would welcome anything that makes this a little easier!
My top 3 studying essentials
Laptop - I know it's quite an investment but I most certainly cannot live without mine. I will make any excuse not to do work, and not having a laptop would be number one on that list! Most Universities will sell you dreams of plenty of computers to study at, however when it comes to dissertation time, freshers will not get a look in on these facilities. My advice, get your own!
A (good quality) rucksack - A nerdy essential I know. But for me going to uni without one of these would be most difficult. Mine, which you can get here from Urban Outfitters, fits everything including my laptop. This has proven most useful and can even be used on weekends away or when you visit home! I do stress tho that a good quality one is key as you don't want to be replacing it every semester!
Books - It may seem obvious, however many students fail to pick up their books at the start of the term. Try to get them early as many student sell their old books for good prices! Also remember that although it may seem like a lot of money at the time you can always resell them later in the year!
Most of all just try and relax into your new environment! It may seem scary at first, but everyone is in the same boat. I'm obviously no expert as I've only just started so any help would be much appreciated!!
